Nigeria senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers have been knocked out of the 2021 AfroBasket Championships, suffering a shock 68-80 defeat to Uganda.
For the first time in 20 years, D’Tigers could not advance beyond the group stage of the FIBA Afrobasket.
Nigeria finished the third quarter trailing Uganda by 18 points and eventually lost the game 68-80 (12-24, 19-20, 18-23, 19-13).

Just two days ago, D’Tigers missed out on automatic quarterfinals qualification after losing their third group game against Cote d’Ivoire and headed to the qualifying game hoping for a chance to earn the right to the slot.
The Nigerian side will shift focus to the 2023 FIBA World Cup Qualifier which will hold between November 2021 and February 2023.
The process will determine the five African teams that will participate in the FIBA World Cup, hosted by the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia.
D’Tigers have been drawn against Mali, Uganda and Cape Verde in group-A of the first round of qualifiers for the 2023 FIBA World Cup, at draws held in Switzerland on Tuesday.
