Hellas Verona handed Jose Mourinho his first Roma defeat.

Jose Mourinho suffered his first defeat since returning to coach in Italy as his AS Roma side were beaten 3-2 by Hellas Verona in a thrilling Serie A encounter on Sunday.

The Giallorossi had taken the lead through Lorenzo Pellegrini’s sensational back-heel flick, but Verona turned it around on the debut of their new coach Igor Tudor.

Lorenzo Pellegrini had given the visitors a halftime lead with a sublime back-heel flick.

However, the home side went ahead early in the second half as goals from Antonin Barak and Gianluca Caprari edged Verona 2-1 in front.

Roma levelled in the 58th minute through Ivan Ilic’s own goal.

Five minute later, Faraoni scored a spectacular winner, ensuring Verona beat Roma for the first time in Serie A in almost 25 years.

“The lads put in an extraordinary performance. It wasn’t an easy game, but we kept the same intensity for the whole game and I am really happy.” – Igor Tudor told DAZN.

Mou revealed some of the tactical keys to the match, insisting Tudor had not surprised Roma, they just didn’t react the right way.

“We put the effort in, I cannot complain about that, but we lost too many individual duels. Hellas had more intensity. Now I need a few hours in front of the video replays to work out what just happened.” – Mourinho told DAZN

Roma currently sit fourth on the log with nine points while Verona moved out of the bottom three and up to 14th.
