Oleksandr Usyk is the new unified heavyweight world champion after getting the better of Anthony Joshua at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday 25 September, 2021.
The Ukrainian won by margins of 117-112, 116-112 and 115-113 to take Joshua’s WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO belts.
Usyk won a unanimous points decision to become the third cruiserweight champion to win the heavyweight after Evander Holyfield and David Haye.
He now has a 19-0 record, and a unification fight with the winner of next month’s WBC title bout between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury awaits.
When asked about whether Joshua would invoke a rematch clause, he told DAZN, “I’ve been working so hard since January. I haven’t seen my family for so long. I want to go home and spend time with my family. I’m not thinking about a rematch.”
This was an 11th consecutive world heavyweight title fight for Joshua who has now suffered a second defeat with a 24-2 record.
