FAWSL: Arsenal beat Manchester United to maintain unbeaten run

Manchester United were beaten 2-0 by Arsenal in a hard-fought match at Leigh Sports Village in the Women’s Super League.

With nothing to separate the two sides at the interval, the visitors broke the deadlock in the 48th minute through a Vivianne Miedema strike, who became the first Barclays FAWSL player in history to score against every team she has faced.

Nine minutes later, McCabe was fouled by Aoife Mannion as the defender slid in to block a potential shot in the box, McCabe herself then stepped up to take the spot-kick, with usual penalty taker Kim Little –who made her 100th appearances for Arsenal todat– off the field after being substituted at half-time. Earps dived the correct way, but couldn’t get a hand to it as McCabe fired home left-footed.

The result ends a run of six games unbeaten in all competitions for the Reds, against an Arsenal side who have dropped just two points in the league this season.
