CAFWCL: Reims defender Mayi Kith commends CAF for successful competition

Cameroon international and Stade De Reims defender Easther Mayi Kith appreciated the Confederation of African Football (CAF), following the success of the inaugural TotalEnergies Women’s Champions League competition.

Mayi was born in Quebec, Canada and represented Canada at the 2013 CONCACAF Women’s U-17 Championship and the 2014 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

She switched allegiance to represent Cameroon in 2019, she is eligible to represent the Lioness’ through her parents, who are both Cameroonians. She made her debut in a 4-0 defeat to Spain on May 17, 2019.

The 24-year-old believe it will be a platform to showcase African young talents as she praises CAF for initiating the women’s version of the competition.

“I saw the CAF Women’s Champions League, it’s really good for African football,” She said.

“We have a lot of young and talented girls in Africa that don’t have same opportunities like we have in Europe. Having such tournaments will help develop the game.

“It will also serve as motivation for the younger girls that football is not only a Men’s sports but also Women’s sports. It will encourage a lot of young girls to pursue football”

With eight teams making it to the group stage from the zonal qualifying playoffs, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies of South Africa made history winning the first ever Women’s Champions League organised on Africa soil beating Hasaacas Ladies of Ghana 2-0 in final.
