FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying group stage wrap

The European qualifying group stage for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup is in progress, running until 6 September 2022. The group winners will be promoted from the qualifications, and the teams from the second place will play in the play-offs. The two best teams will secure their promotion, and the third will have a chance to fight for participation in the World Cup in the intercontinental play-off tournament with 10 national teams.

A record-breaking performance saw Republic of Ireland secured a remarkable 11-0 victory over winless Georgia in their crucial ‘Must Win’ FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifier encounter.

Bebia’s own goal opened the scoring in the fourth minute, Carusa (21) doubled it, Quinn (37) extended the lead before O’Sullivan hat-trick (45, 58, 62).

Things got harsh for Bebia who got second yellow card after she was struck by a Fahey shot from just a yard away in the 69th minute.

It was seven in the 70th minute after McCabe swept home a penalty and three minutes later earned her brace. More goals from Saoirse Noonan (81), Amber Barrett (89) and Megan Connolly completed the goal rout.

Spain lead Group B with superiority after knocking previously unbeaten Scotland 8-0 at the La Cartuja Stadium.. That was Spain’s 16th victory in a row without conceding.

Goals: Amaiur(20, 58), Mariona Caldentey (34, 83), Aitana (40, 61), Alexia (64) and Jenni Hermoso (79).

England thrashed Latvia with an absurd figures 20-0 in the showdown to top Group D with five points ahead of both Austria and Northern Ireland.

Ellen White’s hat-trick in the defeat of Latvia meant she overtook Kelly Smith as the Lionesses’ all-time leading scorer.

England have won their first six matches without the shadow of problems, and the nation’s women’s national team has a goal score of 53-0 – that is an average of more than eight goals per game.

Poland suffered first defeat in their fight to go to the World Cup after losing 4-0 to Belgium in their sixth match of the 2023 World Cup qualifiers. Belgium (second) now tied on point with Norway (top) in Group F who are yet to play their match game six.

Tine De Caigny opened the scoring in the 15th minute, before Hannah Eurling doubled the advantage in the 33rd. Janice Cayman extended the lead before halftime, and in the 51st, Mesjaz finds the back of her own net.

Germany defeated Portugal 1-3 in Faro and leads the Group H table with the maximum yield of six wins from six games and the terrific goal difference of 31: 2.

Lea Schüller (15th), Svenja Huth (23rd) and Melanie Leupolz (28th) scored the German goals before goalkeeper Merle Frohms made an own goal after a missed penalty by Carole Costa in the 34th minute. The Portuguese are now already five points behind the DFB team.

Russia proved to be the biggest challenge so far in the qualification for Denmark, but the hosts defeated the defensive guests 3-1 in Viborg. Signe Bruun opened the scoring in the 65th minute, Sanne Troelsgaard doubled the lead in the 76th and Mille Gejl’s 84th minute goal sealed it for the Danish before Nelli Korovkina netted a consolation goal in the 89th minute.

Denmark top Group E with a maximum six wins from six games and three points above Russia.

France edged Wales 2-0 to stay perfect after six matches and open up a five-point lead over their previously undefeated visitors.

Kadidiatou Diani opened the scoring in the last minute of first half. Despite having a player sent off in the 70th minute, Wales tried to force an equalising goal as Fishlock hits the post and France scored their second on the resulting counter-attack in the final minute.
