It’s match week three of the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership as matches were played across six centres in the country on Wednesday evening.
Nasarawa Amazons and Rivers Angels run riots on their respective opponent winning 4-0 apiece. FC Robo Queens and Delta Queens managed a narrow victory while Edo Queens held Confluence Queens to a 1-1 draw and new comers, Naija Ratels continued on their fairytale start to the season after finishing Adamawa Queens.

Amazons welcomed ‘Omoluabi Babes’ to their Lafia Stadium. Chinyere Kalu opened the scoring in the 20th minute before Sunday Abigail scored the second and fourth goal in the 38th and 83rd minute respectively as Amarachi Okoronkwo scored the third in the 43rd minute.

Rivers Angels demolished the Palace of Royal Queens, with their old servants netting twice. Maryann Ezeanagu broke the deadlock in the 31st minute with a great header, before CAF Women’s Champions League star girl Deborah Abiodun doubled the visitors’ lead in the 48th minute. Former Royal Queens midfielder, Chiamaka Okwuchuku then broke the heart of her former team as she scored a brace (83 and 90+3) against the ‘Canadian Geese’.

Confluence Queens perfect start to the season –winning two games from two– was brought to a pause after being held by visiting Edo Queens, at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja. Akudo Ogbonna gave the visitors the lead in the 19th minute from the penalty spot, before Georgewill Ibinabo levelled up for the home team in the 68th minute.

In the blockbuster fixture of the day, the better side grinded out a vital goal, as FC Robo Queens secured a 1-0 victory against Bayelsa Queens. Despite the visiting goalkeeper masterclass, Shukurat Oladipo scrabbled in a goal in the 83rd minute.

In Abuja, new comers, Naija Ratels continued to impress after beating Adamawa Queens 5-2 at the Area 10 Sports Complex. The ‘One Day At A Time’ Ladies conceded first through Ijeoma Obi in the 4th minute – but fought back with goals from Olamide Adugbe (56 and 74), Motunrayo Ezekiel (60 and 80) and Adesina Tunmininu (88mins) – before Emmanuel Mbosowo got one back for the visitors in the 90th minute.

Delta Queens were victorious over Sunshine Queens, thanks to the early goal from Peace Abbey in the 6th minute.

The NWFL Premiership will go on a short Christmas break and matches will resume on the 12th of January 2022.
