CAF to use VAR for all matches at 2021 Africa Cup of Nations

The Confederation Of African Football (CAF) have told participating nations that Video Assistant Referee (VAR), will be used throughout the competition at the Cameroon 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

The VAR was first used in a continental tournament at the 2019 AFCON held in Egypt.

Also, during the African Nations Championship (CHAN), the VAR system was tested in six of the tournament’s principal venues.

This year’s event will take place from the 9th of January to the 6th of February in 2021.

All 52 games will have the VAR unlike the 2019 edition which had only the knockout stages making use of the video assistant referee.
