U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifier: Falconets arrive Cameroon in the middle of AFCON

The Nigeria U20 women’s national team, Falconets will fly into the city of Douala on Thursday for the first leg of their FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup fourth qualifying round encounter against Cameroon.

The match which is slated for Saturday, 22nd January at the Stade Japoma, is guaranteed to produce fireworks, with the Super Eagles currently in Cameroon and doing well at the AFCON, Falconets will derive the boost needed from their high-flying Eagles while the Lionesses will hope to emulate their senior men’s team who are also flying high in the AFCON.

Africa’s most successful team at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup are in the penultimate round for this year’s tournament that will take place in Costa Rica, after a 15-goal haul journey.

The Falconets have played in every edition of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup since the competition was launched as an U19 tournament in Canada in 2022, winning the silver medals in 2010 in Germany and in 2014 in Canada, and were semi finalists in 2012 in Japan.

The return leg will take place at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos on Saturday, 5th February.

The winner over the two legs will then slug it out with the winner between Senegal and Morocco to book a slot at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup, as only two teams will represent the continent in Costa Rica 2022.

Coach Chris Danjuma will be landing with his 23-woman squad through Asky Airline in Cameroon’s commercial capital on Thursday evening.
