Samantha Kerr has broken Australia’s all-time goal scoring record, after scoring five goals in her side’s 18-0 demolition of Indonesia at the ongoing AFC Asian Cup.
Kerr had 49 goals going into the match and needed just one goal to equal Tim Cahill’s record of 50 goals in 108 appearances, but she ended up leaving the game with 54 goals in her 105th appearance for the Aussie, surpassing Cahill’s record.

The 28-year-old scored her debut goal at the age of 16 during the Asian Cup in 2010.
The Chelsea striker was a runner-up at the FIFA The Best awards held on Monday and also among the top three of the Ballon d’Or awards. She is the only female footballer to have won Golden Boot in three different leagues and three different continents.
Kerr is also the first Australian player to net hat-trick at a FIFA World Cup.
The Matildas moved to the top of Group B and will next face the Philippines in its second group game on January 24, 2022.
