The much anticipated inaugural Soccer Queens Cup competition kicked off today with Fortress Ladies FC and Abruka Queens going head-to-head in the opening match at the Confluence Queens Stadium, Lokoja on Tuesday.
Representing South-South, the Benin based team Fortress Ladies defeated Abruka Queens 1-0, thanks to Osakiren’s 73rd minute goal.


It was not an easy win for Fortress as Abruka put up a great show, especially the team’s goalkeeper.
In 80th minute, Abruka could have restored parity but the goalkeeper gets her hands on the ball to deny the threat in her Fortress.
Goalscorer, Osakiren got yellow carded with just one minute left on the regular time after returning to the pitch from medical without thee referee’s permission.
Four minutes of added time but it’s not enough for North-Central team to managed a point and Fortress Ladies took the maximum points of the first game.
