Namibian Sprinters Mboma And Masilingi Set To Attend 2022 Ladies In Sports Conference

Namibian track and field stars Christine Mboma and Beatrice Masilingi are part of a brilliant lineup of speakers set to grace the 2022 Ladies in Sports conference from May 4 to 5, at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos, to discuss the theme: “Taking the Next Steps”.

The seventh edition of this annual event, which shines the spotlight on women in sports, will also feature Jennifer Pransky, Head of Content at NWSL newcomers Angel City FC, and Omar Khyari, the advisor to the President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation.

Registration is open at http://www.ladiesinsport.com and the event will also be streamed live on Facebook.

The first 5 women to register will get a Stanbic IBTC savings account with N10,000. T&C apply!

In spite of being prevented from running in their preferred 400m event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics last year due to naturally occurring raised testosterone levels, teenagers Mboma and Masilingi reached the 200m final, where the former won silver – to become the first Namibian woman ever to win an Olympic medal – and the latter finished in sixth place.

Award-winning storyteller and co-founder of Creatives 4 Democracy, Pransky was the Senior Coordinating Producer at Fox Sports for 19 years (2000 – 2019), during which she worked on Super Bowls, World Cups, World Series and countless other events. Her accolades include eight Emmy wins.

Khyari, who is in charge of the communication and the international relations at the FRMF, has been playing a key role in his country’s preparations to host the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in July. The North African country has also been making commendable efforts to develop and grow women’s football with the core target of having at least 80,000 players and over 1,000 coaches by 2024.

During the event, which also creates a conducive atmosphere for networking, some women athletes will receive grants as it has been the tradition since the first edition in 2016.

The LIS 2022 Conference is powered by Stanbic IBTC, Smooth 98.1FM and Integral.
