A last-gasp equalizer from Canada denied Super Falcons a famous win, as both teams settled for a 2-2 draw, in the second of their two legged friendly in Victoria on Tuesday.
Having been beaten 2-0 by the same side four days ago, the African champions Super Falcons started brightly and deservedly went ahead in the fifth minute when Onumonu converted a ball with a back heel near the opponent’s post.
The Randy Waldrum-led Super Falcons held on to the one goal advantage until the end of the first half.
Christine Sinclair equalised for Canada with a long range effort in the 48th minute, while the Super Falcons regained the lead five minutes later through Rasheed Ajibade.
The Super Falcons held on and were looked set to snatch victory, but with two minutes left to the final whistle, their defence cracked yet again to allow Zadorsky to head home a cross from Beckie past Nnadozie, who had an outstanding game.
The result is the first draw between the two sides in almost three decades.
The two games against Canada were a huge test for the Super Falcons as they continued to prepare for the 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations tourney scheduled to hold in Morocco where the top four teams from the fiesta will qualify for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, and two more teams will advance to the inter-confederation play-offs.
