Favour Ofili Smashes Records In 200m At The Tom Jones Memoria

Favour Ofili, has broken Blessing Okagbare’s two hundred metres National Record at the Tom Jones Memoria.

Okagbare previously held the National Record (NR) in 2018 with a time of 22.04 seconds.

Ofili ran a blistering 21.96s to also become the first collegiate athlete to ever go sub-twenty-two secs.

With the time, she also emerged as the first Nigerian woman to race under 22secs in the women’s 200m.

Her time is also the fastest in the world this year, the fastest ever within the NCAA, and a new School Record.

On Friday, Favour Ofili powered to World Lead of 21.96s (1.3) to take the women’s 200m at the Tom Jones invitational in FL, earlier than Kamaya Debose-Epps who ran 22.81secs and Jonah Ross in 22.91secs.

• Surpassed Sha’carri Richardson’s record as her school fastest
• Surpassed Blessing Okagbare’s record as Nigerian fastest
• Fastest in US college history
• Second on Africa’s all-time list

Ofili is a Nigerian track and field athlete specializing in the two hundred meters and 400 meters sprints.

She is the 2019 African Games silver medalist within the 400 metres. She is also the 2019 African Youth Champion within the 200 and 400 metres.
