Betsy Obaseki Women’s Football Tournament: Anjor Mary’s hat-trick dashed FC Robo’s hope of a final.

The first semifinal of the Betsy Obaseki Women’s Football Tournament saw two finalist of the 2021 AITEO FA Cup go head-to-head once again, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, as Bayelsa Queens defeated FC Robo Queens 3-1 to booked a place in the final.

In the match which was a repeat of the Aiteo Cup final game played at the same venue (Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City) some months ago, it was the reigning Aiteo Cup winners Bayelsa Queens who came out victorious once again and are through to the final of the 2021
Betty Obaseki Cup in Benin, thanks to Anjor Mary’s hat-trick.

Proving once again why she won the Golden Ball and Golden Boot at the Aiteo Cup, Anjor Mary helped Bayelsa booked a spot in the final of the inaugural edition of the Betsy Obaseki Women’s Football Tournament in Edo State.

Talking to the media before the game, head coach of FC Robo Queens, Emmanuel Osahon was confident his side will not be beaten again after losing 4-2 to the same side in the Aiteo Cup final some months ago.

In his words, “Though we play in the NWFL Premiership League with Bayelsa Queens, but I can say here that, Bayelsa Queens will not beat us for the second time at the same venue. After the Aiteo Cup finals, we learnt our lessons about the Yenagoa team. We pray for a favourable game that would see my girls come out victorious.”

FC Robo had its consolation goal through none other than the prolific poacher, Monday Gift. After the defeat, the Lagos Landladies will now hope for a third place win against the losing side between Edo Queens and Rivers Angels.

The winner of the third place will go home with N2million and the fourth place team won’t go empty handed too, as there is a N1million prize money for the loser of the third place match.

The third place match will be played 8am on Sunday morning at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

The Restoration ladies will wait to face the winner of the second semifinals match between Edo Queens and Rivers Angels. The grand finale will kickoff by 5pm at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium after the closing ceremony.

#D1Arkema: Nnadozie masterclass denied Esther Okoronkwo’s Saint Etienne a back-to-back win.

It’s Saint Etienne with an early threat in the attack with Gago upfront on a counter attack but Nnadozie stayed calm to kept her side in the game.

The hosts kept mounting pressure on the visitors, an effort which was crowned with a clever lob on Chiamaka Nnadozie as Gago opened the scoring in the 25th minute from a Coquard assist.

Restoring the parity just before the break, Daphné Corboz and Louna Ribadeira with a swift one-two passes on the counter attack and the young striker shifts perfectly to equalized for the visitors.

Paris FC made a difference in the second half.

In the 68th minute, Clara Mateo takes advantage of a ball badly repelled by the opponent’s goalkeeper to slip the leather into the back of the net and the visitors the lead.

The hosts could’ve equalized in the 78th minute but Chiamaka Nnadozie had a beautiful parade on a very distant lob shot.

The visitors with another breakthrough counter-attack, Ouleymata Sarr plays with her vis-à-vis on the right and deceives Gignoux with a beautiful cross strike to seal the game for Paris FC.

This victory allows Paris FC to pick up Paris Saint-Germain, which will play this Sunday, after 5 days of the championship.

At the other end, Nigerian international, Esther Okoronkwo who scored brace last week against Dijon was substituted in the 84th minute.

Oparanozie’s brace for Dijon help defeat Zogg’s Soyaux.

The DFCO has strengthened in the offensive sector with a second Nigerian international in its workforce. In addition to Desire Oparanozie, at the club since last season, the Burgundy club recorded the arrival of Esther Sunday who started on the bench today against Onyinyechi Zogg’s Soyaux.

After two consecutive defeats against Olympique Lyonnais (6-0) and AS Saint-Etienne (0-4), the DFCO had to offer a reaction on the lawn of ASJ Soyaux, DFCO Dijon returned to winning ways thanks to two goals from Super Falcons of Nigeria forward, Desire Oparanozie.

The DFCO entered the game much better than against Saint-Etienne, and did not take long to create its first dangerous situations. On a corner from Elody Salaün, Désiré Oparanozie placed her head, but she ended up in the arms of the goalkeeper. The Nigerian will then take advantage of a poor recovery from Philippe to intercept and go to strike but couldn’t find the back of the net.

It is finally the DFCO which will find the opening in the 15th minute thanks to a superb overflow from Léna Goetsch, followed by a caviar delivered on the head of Désiré Oparanozie, who does not miss the offering.

Kelly Gadea equalised for Soyaux in the 51st minute.

DFCO with immediate reply thanks to Désiré Oparanozie. Served in depth by Léa Declercq, the Nigerian precedes Philippe’s exit and scores in the empty goal, from a difficult angle.

The captain played for the duration of the game and received a yellow card in the 54th minute after her brace which took her goals tally to three in five league games.

At the other end, a Nigerian, Onyinyechi Zogg was replaced by Corina Luijks in the 46th minute.

Soyaux occupies the 11th position with three points from five games ahead of its next game against Chiamaka Nnadozie’s Paris FC on October 16.

Unstoppable Oshoala on the scoresheet again!

Asisat Oshoala came off the bench to score a goal in Barcelona Femeni’s 9-1 victory over Osinachi Ohale and Deportivo Alaves in Round five-fixture of the 2021/2022 Primera Iberdrola season.

Oshoala replaced Fridolina Rolfö in the 64th minute and converted Barcelona’s ninth goal in the 84th minute.

The Nigerian forward has now scored in her fourth consecutive game for European Champions, FC Barcelona. The goal was Asisat Oshoala’s seventh in five league games for FC Barcelona this season.

Barcelona had to come from a goal down – conceding its first league goal of the season– to score nine goals which took the game beyond Alaves’ reach.

Osinachi Ohale played full 90 minutes for Alaves as her side suffered their consecutive defeat in the league after last weekend’s 3-2 loss to Ajibade’s Atletico de Madrid.

Flying Officers Cup: Who is Naija Ratels?

Meet Naija Ratels FC ahead of the 2021 Flying Officers Cup which will kickoff on the 10th of October 2021 in Abuja.

Champions of the NWFL Championship will look to go further in the 2021 Flying Officers Cup after reaching the semifinals last season.

Naija Ratels have showed an unbreakable spirit at the last edition of the Flying Officers Cup, reaching the semi-finals, where they finally bowed out to Nasarawa Amazons in the penalty shootouts.

Over the last year, Naija Ratels have been rejuvenated under Bankole Olowookeere, keeping a different style of play from the norm with the players been more flexible on the ball in a more fascinating approach, playing modern football, starting the attack from the goalkeeper.

The ‘Ratels’ will head into the 2021 Flying Officers Cup as a stronger team, having finally gained promotion to the first tier, NWFL Premiership in June, where they emerged champions of the NWFL Championship ahead of the likes of Heartland Queens and Adamawa Queens.

With teenage sensations like Paulina Ali, Aminat Bello, Emmanuel Blessing, Oyinlola Olamide, Adanna Nwachukwu and others, there is plenty of optimism around the future of Naija Ratels.

President of the Club, Barrister Paul Edeh recently unveiled some quality players like Sofiat Bankole, Olamide Adugbe, Adesina Itunuoluwa, Regina Omede into the squad and this may perhaps make the team stronger as they head towards the Flying Officers Cup and the league.

Nigerians clamour for Emmanuel Dennis’ inclusion after Watford star’s Super Eagles snub.

A cross-section of Nigerian football fans are united in their clamour for the inclusion of Watford striker, Emmanuel Dennis, in the Super Eagles following his omission from the upcoming World Cup qualifying double-header against Central African Republic on October 7 and October 10 in Lagos and Douala, respectively.

Capped twice so far by Nigeria, the 23-year-old, who began his European sojourn as a teenager in the Ukrainian Premier League with Zorya Luhansk, is part of a huge Nigerian and African contingent at Watford that includes the Nigerian quartet of Super Eagles vice-captain William Troost-Ekong, Oghenekaro Etebo, Tom-Dele Bashiru, and Isaac Success, alongside Senegalese star Ismaila Sarr, Imran Louza of Morocco, and Ghana’s Kwadwo Baah.

Watford based Emmanuel Dennis, in his first season in the Premier League, was the surprise omission as Manager Gernot Rohr dropped his 23-man list for the two matches slated for next week.

With a goal and assist against Aston Villa on his Premier League debut was voted man of the match.

The three-time Belgian league champion with Club Brugge, joined Watford during the summer transfer window in a €4 million deal.

He scored 27 goals in just over 90 club appearances for Club Brugge and has featured in both the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, notably scoring twice at the Bernabeu against Real Madrid in 2019.

But no sooner as the Eagles roster was made public through the official social media account of the Super Eagles (@ng_supereagles), did the comments kicking against the exclusion of Emmanuel Dennis start flooding in on the comments session of the same ng-supereagles page.

Fans Reactions:

One of the respondents, @ejike Metempo, noted that, “Ahmed Musa does nit offer anything to the team. He is occupying space of the likes of Emmanuel Dennis ,who is doing extremely well at Watford”.

@Solapret in his comment, wrote, “we need Dennis”, while @AYcomedianworld wrote, “it’s a surprise that there is no Emmanuel Dennis”.

We hope to see the Watford man in future National outings.

“Victor Osimhen may have a little more than the 2021 Serie A Young Player Of The Year” – Italian Coaches Association President.

Nigerian International, Victor Osimhen has been tipped to get to the heights of PSG’s Kylian Mbappe and Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland with him also being one of the most in-demand African youths in the world.

In Italy, a dispute is raging about who is the more brilliant footballer between Napoli’s record-buy and Fiorentina’s golden boy, Dusan Vlahovi.

Chairman of the Italian Football Managers’ Association, Renzo Ulivieri, has weighed in his opinion over who is the superior player between the two talents.

The comparison:

Vlahovi, a Serbian forward, joined Fiorentina as a highly-rated youth in 2018, but he struggled in his first two seasons, scoring six Serie A goals in 40 games.

Last season, though, the 21-year-old shone brightly, scoring 21 goals in 37 league matches, and it was no surprise to see him win the Serie A Best Young Player award at the end of the campaign.

Osimhen on the other hand suffered with injuries and coronavirus after a record-breaking move to Napoli.

Although, despite these ups and downs, the Nigerian forward managed to shipped in 10 goals for the people of Naples, he never came close to challenging Vlahovi for the title of most talented youngster.

Head-to-head:

The two young strikers have had a fantastic start to the 2021-22 season, having the same number of goals (4) with Vlahovi doing it in six games while Osimhen had his in one fewer game. Many in Italy are drawing parallels between the two bright prospects.

The Verdict:

Osimhen has earned him the admiration of former Italian star and manager Claudio Onofri as well as the president of the country’s football managers association, Ulivieri, for his tireless running, ability to take on defenders, and eagerness to help his team.

Ulivieri expresses his admiration for the two attackers and feels that they are among the best young players in Serie A.

However, the former Fiorentina youth team coach admits that Osimhen now possesses more firepower than the Serbian scorer.

Vlahovic or Osimhen? The ideal would be to let them both play, also because I am addicted to playing with the double striker,” Ulivieri told Marte Sport Live, as per TuttoNapoli.

They are both of great value. At this moment, Osimhen may have a little more, but Vlahovic will also be fine.”
