One of Europe’s top Sports Equipment brand, Masita, on Monday in far-away Holland gave it’s backing to the biggest Women Football Pre-season Championship in Africa, the Flying Officers Cup.

The Dutch Sportswear brand stamped their endorsement on the Women’s Pre-season Championship when the President of Ratels Sports Development Foundation (RSDF), Barrister Paul Edeh was received at their head office in Mastritch, Holland on Monday.

While receiving Barrister Paul Edeh, the C.E.O of the brand, Kurt Molin, was full of praises for Edeh, who he said has invested massively into the growth of women’s football in Nigeria and Africa.

Kurt hinted that a partnership deal between the Masita brand and RSDF is on the verge of getting sealed.

As reported by the Flying Officers Cup media, Masita will be the kit sponsor of the Naija Ratels FC when they kick start their NWFL Premiership campaign.

“We have read a lot about what Ratels Sports Development Foundation are doing with women football in Nigeria and are proud to receive the President of the Foundation, Barrister Paul Edeh to our head office here in Holland.

“We are highly satisfied with all these achievements and are ready to partner with the foundation on their numerous programmes including the upcoming Flying Officers Cup.

“We are thrilled to enter into a relationship with Ratels Sports Development Foundation and Naija Ratels, a promising and ambitious Club and we hope that this strategic partnership allows us to work closely with the club as they enter into this next phase .

Super Falcons class of 1999 honoured at the third edition of the Aiteo-NFF awards held at the Banquet Hall of Eko Hotels & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos on Monday evening.

The team captained by Florence Omagbemi were the first set to reached the quarter finals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, staged in the United States of America, feat the Super Eagles are yet to equal since 1999 when the girls achieved it.

The class of ’99 defeated North Korea 2-1 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena with goals from Mercy Akide and Rita Nwadike, before losing 7-1 to the USA despite taking a second-minute lead through Nkiru Okosieme. Defeat to the Americans in Chicago stirred something in Africa’s lone flag-bearer at the first Women’s World Cup to feature 16 teams.

In their next match, the Falcons flew past Denmark 2-0 at the Jack Kent Cooke Stadium near Washington DC, the goals coming from Mercy Akide and Nkiru Okosieme. In the quarter-finals, at the same venue, the Nigerian girls stormed back from three goals down to Brazil in the first half to tie the game 3-3, with Prisca Emeafu, Nkiru Okosieme and Nkechi Egbe the scorers.

Silas Nwankwo wins Player Of The Year award at the Aiteo-NFF awards 2021.

Nasarawa United goal poacher, Silas Nwankwo, has been named as the Best Performer of the year after emerging the joint top scorer of the 2020/21 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.

He picked the award at the 2021 Aiteo-NFF awards, held on Monday night at the Eko Hotels, Lagos.

In his speech, he dedicated his award to his Football Academy and his Nasarawa United’s teammates while insisting he is enjoying his trajectory.

“It feels great, actually, to be called upon. I am enjoying myself right now,” he said.

“I dedicate this award to God Almighty, my Football Academy, and to everyone at Nasarawa United FC and entire Nasarawa State, beginning from the Executive Governor, His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, and everyone that was there for me that I can’t mention all now.” he added.

The former Sunshine Stars FC of Akure, Ondo State, joined the Lafia-based side in the beginning of last season, scoring 19 goals, a feat he shares with Akwa United’s Charles Atshimene.

Ghana’s Black Queens edged the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon 2-0 to win their first game in Aisha Buhari Cup on Monday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.

Head coach of the Black Queens, Mercy Tagoe made three changes to the side that loss 3-0 to South Africa.
